This All-Star games marks the last Chicago Public League contest under Dr. J.W. Smith. Smith is retiring as of June 30, 2003, as Director of Sports Administration and Facilities. Smith - who ends a 40-year affiliation with the Public League - had his greatest years in the 1980s when he coached the Julian Jaguars to seven Public League football titles.
